Great tip from the above post, escpecially the i5 and 90kD Graphics card.

let me add though that OS will cost you abut 31KD each (windows 7)

and cheapest hardisk can be had for about 12 KD??

same price for a generic computer case I guess.

GL.

Do you really think all these gaming shops / internet cafes have genuine windows on their machines? :)

Good point. But if anyone wants to run a genuine business, I think they should factor in the cost of the software - otherwise you risk a random crackdown and closure of business, not to mention fines. Why take that risk?

Actually , if i bought OEM. Edition's u can install upto 5 systems , i bought my windows vista Ultimate for 52 kd.

A 450gts is a GOOOOD GPU , runs a lot of games in decent framerates , but the price might interfear with the budget ' so i might pick a 440GT , its a rebranded 220 i think , . Also , Quad core's might also interfear with the budget , i only got 5000kd to drop on this business , and most of it is for buying a shop .

I may be young , but i got a clear view of anything that involves business . Specially when it involves aroung games and computers, my Parents are FULLY supporting me , so why not take a shot at it .

I suggest you take a couple of courses at a university before you decide to open a business. Most people don't open a business until a) they have a degree in business or B) have worked a considerable amount of years and have the experience to open a business.

5000kd? That will be enough to buy the place where you'll be putting this lan center. Shops in complexs require a license to pay, and usually in the Salmiya and Hawally areas they cost around that much, if not more, or sometimes if not less. Once you pay that 5000kd, then you pay the rent each month, which can be anywhere from 500-2000 depending on which complex. floor, and if it's facing the street or not.

The biggest issue with the plan is that some of the games you mentioned require STEAM to be on to play LAN, which requires each individual person who will be playing at the LAN to have a steam account, and they have to have purchased that game, and if they're 10-15 years old, which is your primary demographic for this type of business, and have little english skills, I doubt they will be interested in creating a STEAM account, let alone know how to, and that's if they even have an email to set up a STEAM account, or even have a credit card to buy the game.

And another issue here is that LAN centers don't really make that good amount of profit, which is the big why so many lan centers have shut down throughout the years.

I think you should try and focus on building the computers, then having your friends come over to play with you, which can give you a taste of what it's like to manage a lan center. I used to have 4 computers setup and my friends and I would play CS or warcraft III, way back in the day like 2005. Never had any interested in playing at lan places since then lol. The scene is dying in terms of CS and lan centers in general.

I know this post may seem negative, but it really isn't, it's just looking at things the way they are. If you do open the place up, let us know so we can come check it out. GL!

Yeah I get the impression the OP is not that old :P

There was a period of time where everyone was opening LAN centers left and right, Salmiya was absolutely full of them and they were able to charge 1.5KD an hour in some cases (Dungeon VIP room in Hawally) but now you have 1 or 2 major gaming ones left - I'd say pretty much Eclipse - and Eclipse has deals like stay the entire day for 4 KD now I think, don't really go there anymore :P

And that's another problem, we don't go there anymore because online functionality is much better. We don't have to go play with others in a cafe because we can find people to play against online.

If you want an idea of what the other gaming centers are like, look at the ones in rihab lol. All falling apart and little kids playing counterstrike and breaking the computers. I know Eclipse does well because it's 24 hours and people just stay there playing WOW all the time lol

The shop I'm gonna buy costs 2000kd , they are 3 shoops , I might buy 2 of them and use those to as a starter shop , these shops are in hawally Rehab , so trust me , there's no such thing as ""failing"" with lan centers in rehab ,

Another thing who the hell ever said I'm going to use STEAM in these shops , they are not ""worth"" installing steams for the people who visit rehab , just gonna buy original games , but install the ""pirated"" version , but keep the original copies intact a.k.a doing it legally .

the previous posters were correct. do a feasibility study first before you plunge head-on to that project. are you willing to recoup your investment after a year or so? so many factors.... think HARD!

Also rihab doesn't actually sell the shops does it? Pretty sure they rent them...

The shops ARE for sale , an owner has 3 chains next to each other , each is for 2000kd . i might buy 2 of these , either rent them . or use them

A shop for sale for KD 2000? sounds very fishy.

If it is KD2000, then its not a sale...This is "خلو - khulu"...which is the amount they want to pass on the rental agreement to you.

Yeah, you pay 2000 for the right to use the store but then you're still paying rent afterwards. If a store in Rihab is 2000KD to own I'd buy it just for the hell of it lol
