My point and shoot sees pretty much zero use when I'm in Kuwait. I've slowly developed an interest in photography over the past few years but I could never justify the cost of a proper camera to take it further because I can never find anything I'd want to take a picture of unless I'm traveling. Anyway, a few pictures from a recent trip to Lebanon. Most have had their color tweaked (but not for realism).

First baptism of Fire

This shot was the first one I took with my new glass, the Nikon 70-200 f2.8VR. It just arrived this morning hand-carried by a friend. While still red-hot from delivery, it was immediately put to a test. The venue was perfect since the occassion was inside a poorly lit auditorium.

After trying to acquire this lense for more than a month now, and after going thru a lot of hassles, I finally got a grip on it. The exorbitant price tag was well worth it.

Manual and handheld

f/5

ISO 400

70mm focal length

No PP done (only cropping)

Why f5, if I may ask.[/quoteb8b44d]

I wanted to get light as much as possible w/o pushing the ISO too much. They said that even full wide open, 70-200VR is damn sharp. I have personally proven it today.

I don't follow, man.

That's why people use fast lenses, wide open.

You didn't use it wide open, so not sure what was proven today. You used it at f5, that's a full F-stop from wide open, and some change.

I'm not arguing here, my friend, I just don't follow what you said.

f2.8 would be too shallow with the current situation on hand. I wanted to achieve an appreciable percentage of in-focus area. It's not advisable to go full wide open just because your shooting in-door (light varies depending on your subject). It all depends on your taste or requirement, you must balance between bokeh and grainyness.

Remember that this was just the first shot, one photo, it doesn't necessarily mean that I didn't used it wide open. Nobody concludes with just one try.

AoD, my PM doesn't work here. Can you PM your email so we can discuss it further. I need some time to think it over (re; 5D), though.

Btw, took about 80 pics with the new camera yesterday (a test drive), all with the 24-70, wide open (or there about). Tried to load them here but got confused with Photobucket. Will try again later.

Thanks, Cajie.

Came home about 5 PM from work yesterday so had little time to check it out. I did take some in the front yard, though.
